Container-Load Logistics Estimator
Plan your export shipment: enter your annual volume to estimate how many containers you need, the lead time to your port, and freight for your destination. Figures are indicative for nested moulded fibre, shipped from Nhava Sheva (JNPT), India.

A note on assumptions
Capacities are indicative for nested moulded fibre and vary by exact size and carton pack. Transit times are typical ex Nhava Sheva (JNPT) and exclude local haulage and customs clearance. Ocean freight rates fluctuate, so we quote live freight with your order. For exact pieces per container on your SKUs, send your specifications.
This estimator gives indicative figures for planning only. Confirm container capacity, lead times and live freight for your SKUs before relying on them.
Spot an error? Tell usPlanning a container-load shipment of bagasse tableware
Importing foodservice disposables at scale is a container exercise, not a parcel one. Getting the container maths right protects your margin and your shelf availability. This guide explains how to read the estimator above, how much fits in a container, what the lead times really are, and how to ship at the lowest landed cost.
FCL versus LCL, and why full containers win
Full-container-load (FCL) means you book a whole container; less-than-container-load (LCL) means you share one. For lightweight, high-volume items like moulded fibre, FCL is almost always cheaper per unit once you can fill a container, because LCL carries handling and consolidation fees that erode the saving. The estimator shows how many containers your annual volume needs, so you can see when you cross into efficient FCL territory.
How much fits in a container
Bagasse tableware nests, so a container holds far more than its footprint suggests. As a rough guide, a 40ft container takes on the order of 180,000 nested plates, 200,000 bowls, or around 90,000 clamshells, which are bulkier. A 40ft high cube adds roughly 13 percent more volume over a 40ft standard, and a 20ft holds around half. These are indicative figures; the exact count depends on item size, wall thickness and how cartons are packed, which is why the estimator lets you enter your own pieces-per-container number.
Lead times from India
Two clocks matter: production and transit. Budget around 18 days to produce a full container at FCL volumes, then add ocean transit from Nhava Sheva (JNPT): roughly 24 days to the UK, 26 to mainland Europe, 35 to the United States, and about 9 days to the UAE. Add local haulage and customs clearance at destination. Planning three months of cover per order is a sensible buffer for most importers.
Incoterms: FOB or CIF
FOB (free on board) means the price covers goods loaded onto the vessel, and you arrange ocean freight and insurance. CIF (cost, insurance and freight) means we arrange those to your destination port. FOB gives you control if you have a freight forwarder; CIF is simpler if you would rather we handle it. Ecofy ships either and manages the export paperwork so your broker receives a clean arrival.
Ports and routing
Ecofy dispatches from Nhava Sheva (JNPT), one of India's largest container ports, with direct services to Felixstowe and Southampton, Rotterdam and Hamburg, the US East and West coasts, and Jebel Ali. Routing through a major gateway keeps schedules reliable and sailings frequent, which matters when you are planning replenishment.
How to ship at the lowest landed cost
- Fill the container. A half-empty container still costs a full slot, so consolidate SKUs to reach a full load.
- Use 40ft high cube for light, bulky lines to buy the most volume per booking.
- Order in fewer, larger shipments to spread fixed costs across more units.
- Lock production and sailing early to avoid rushed air freight or premium rates.
Mixed containers across several SKUs are possible, which lowers the effective minimum order per line and helps newer buyers start without over-committing to one product.
Beyond logistics: cost and compliance
Freight is one line in your landed cost. To model the full picture against your current supplier, use the Cost-of-Switching Calculator, and check that your product is permitted in your destination with the Packaging Compliance Checker. For sourcing guidance, see our market pages for the UK, USA, India and UAE.

Frequently Asked
Container-load shipping, answered
What importers ask before their first FCL order.
How many bagasse plates fit in a shipping container?
As a rough guide, a 40ft container holds on the order of 180,000 nested bagasse plates, though the exact figure depends on size, wall thickness and carton pack. Clamshells are bulkier (around 90,000), cups pack tighter. The estimator above lets you set your own pieces-per-container figure.
What is the lead time from India to the UK, EU or US?
Budget around 18 days for FCL production, then ocean transit: roughly 24 days to the UK, 26 to mainland Europe, and 35 to the US, ex Nhava Sheva (JNPT). The UAE is about 9 days. Total door timelines add local haulage.
Do you ship FOB or CIF?
Both. Ecofy ships FOB or CIF to your nominated port and handles the export paperwork, so your customs broker and warehouse receive a clean, predictable arrival. Ask for terms for your destination.
What is the minimum order quantity?
We supply at container-load (FCL) volumes. Mixed containers across several SKUs are possible, which lowers the effective MOQ per line. Consolidating SKUs into fewer, fuller containers is the cheapest way to ship.
