Lightweight compostable packaging for inflight catering.
Airline caterers face strict weight, durability, and sustainability requirements. Ecofy supplies compostable compartment trays, plates, bowls, and PET lids that meet IATA single-use-plastic phase-out targets while reducing inflight weight.
Buyer's Reality
What airline caterers are facing.
Weight per piece drives fuel cost
Every gram of inflight packaging multiplies across 200+ daily flights. Heavy compostables undermine the fuel-efficiency case. Lightweight molded fiber is non-negotiable.
Galley fit is non-negotiable
Standard galley trolleys have rigid dimensions. A tray that does not fit forces operational redesign across the fleet, a cost no procurement team will absorb.
IATA plastic phase-out timeline
IATA member airlines have committed to phasing out single-use plastic. Caterers must source compliant alternatives in advance of audit windows.
Heat performance for inflight ovens
Convection ovens at 30,000 ft hit 180°C. Trays and plates must survive without warping, releasing toxins, or compromising tamper-evident sealing.

Procurement Questions
Answers for inflight catering sourcing teams.
What is the weight per piece for inflight trays and plates?
Trays range from 20 g (3CP meal tray) to 38 g (6CP). Compartment plates range from 15 g (9") to 26 g (12"). Full weight specifications available on request for fuel-efficiency calculations.
Do trays fit standard galley trolleys?
Yes. Standard tray dimensions match major galley trolley specifications (Atlas, KSSU). Custom dimensions available for non-standard fleets; tooling lead time 4 to 6 weeks.
Are products IATA single-use plastic phase-out compliant?
Yes. 100% compostable bagasse meets IATA's stated phase-out targets. EN 13432 and ASTM D6400 certifications cover EU and US carrier operations respectively.
Are trays heat-resistant for inflight ovens?
Bagasse trays are rated for inflight oven temperatures up to 220°C. PET lids on bowls are not oven-safe; remove before reheating. Heat-resistance ratings on each spec sheet.
Can you supply tamper-evident sealing for inflight bowls?
Yes. PET lids fitted to bowls and oval/rectangle containers include snap-fit seals. Custom tamper-evident formats available for premium-cabin meal service.
What is the typical onboarding for an airline catering kitchen?
Sample request, weight and galley-fit validation, IATA compliance documentation, then PO. Onboarding typically takes 6 to 8 weeks from first contact to first FCL shipment.
