How this data is produced
Primary sources only
Figures come from government statistical agencies and official tariff schedules, not from secondary summaries or commercial market reports. Each page names its source and links to it.
Reconciled before publication
Country level figures are checked to sum to the agency's own reported total. Where two sources disagree materially, the discrepancy is stated on the page rather than smoothed over.
Specific commodity codes
Trade analysis uses the most specific tariff line available for the product, not a broad heading. Broad headings mix foodservice tableware with egg cartons and industrial packaging, which distorts the picture.
Official trade data is revised after first publication and is released with a lag of roughly three months. Every page therefore carries a retrieval date, and figures should be quoted with it.

No. Every dataset on this page is downloadable as an open CSV with no registration. Gating research defeats the purpose of publishing it.
How often is the data refreshed?
Quarterly for trade data. Official trade statistics are published with a lag of roughly three months and are subject to revision, so a faster cadence would add noise rather than information. Each page states its retrieval date and the period it covers.
